Learn to Refuse an Invitation Gracefully

In this day and age, refusing an invitation to a social gathering or an event is what we alldread as there is always a fear of coming out as a rude person.

जब आपके कोई दोस्त या रिश्तेदार किसी party या social gathering का आयोजन करते हैं, तब वे उम्मीद करते हैं कि आप उनके करीबी होने के नाते उनका invitation स्वीकार करें और उनकी party में शामिल हों। It’s quiteobvious that you would want to go there too.
पर कभी कभार situations ऐसी भी हो जाती है कि न चाहते हुए भी आप अपने मित्रों का invitation स्वीकार नहीं कर पाते। कोई emergency या health problem या किसी और कारण आपको invitation को अस्वीकार करना पड़ जाता है। ऐसे में हम सोच में पड़ जाते हैं कि किस तरह मना करें।

When someone invites you to a party, it’s simply rude not to reply because then the hostwould never know the number of guests who will be attending the party and would not be able to make proper arrangements. All because of yourhesitation to say NO.

Nowadays, we all lead a busy life and at times, it’s not possible to mark your presence at every social event. But then, it’s always considered rude to declinesomeone’s invitation. WHAT TO DO NOW?

आइये सीखते हैं कुछ phrases जिनका इस्तेमाल आप किसी भी party invitation को मना करने के लिए कर सकते हैं, वो भी बिना rude हुए।

• I really appreciate the offer, but I’m swamped with work this whole week. I hope you understand.
• मै आपके निमंत्रण की सराहना करता हूँ, पर इस पुरे हफ्ते मै काम से लदा हुआ हूँ। आशा करता हूँ कि आप समझ जाएंगे।

• Your get-together sounds like so much fun, but my husband and I already made plans to go out on a date. I’ll be there next time.
• आपका get-together (मिलन समारोह) सुनने में बहुत मज़ेदार लग रहा है लेकिन मै और मेरे पति उस दिन साथ बाहर जाने की योजना पहले से बना चुके हैं। मै अगली बार ज़रूर आउंगी।

• What a bummer! I have another commitment. Hope the party is a success.
• अफ़सोस कि उस दिन मझे कुछ ज़रूरी काम है। आशा है कि आपकी party सफल रहे।

• I would love to catch up with you tomorrow, but I’m committed to something else at that time. Can we schedule ahangout for another date soon?
• कल आपसे मिलकर मझे बहुत ख़ुशी होती, लेकिन मैं उस समय कुछ और करने के लिए प्रतिबद्ध हूँ। क्या हम मिलने के लिए जल्द ही एक और तारीख रख सकते हैं?

• Unfortunately, I won’t be able to attend your destination wedding in London. I would love to take you to dinner before you go. Can we set something up?
• दुर्भाग्य से, मैं आपकी ‘destination wedding’ के लिए London नहीं आ सकुंगी। क्या आप जाने से पहले मेरे साथ बाहर खाने पर चलना पसंद करेंगे? मुझे बहुत ख़ुशी होगी।

• Congratulations on your 25th wedding anniversary! I wish I could attend your party, but I’ll be out of town for this weekend. Myheartfelt wishes are always with you two.
• आपको शादी की 25 वीं सालगिरह मुबारक हो! काश मैं आपकी पार्टी में शामिल हो पाता, लेकिन मैं इस सप्ताह के अंत में शहर से बाहर हूँ। मेरी हार्दिक शुभकामनाएं हमेशा आपके साथ हैं।

• Thank you for inviting me, I appreciate your humble gesture. I would love to share this day with you, but to my bad luck, I will not be able to come due to some health issues. Please accept my apologies.
• मुझे आमंत्रित करने के लिए धन्यवाद, मै आपके इस विनम्रgesture की सराहना करता हूँ। मुझे ख़ुशी होती आपके साथ यह दिन बाँट कर, लेकिन दुर्भाग्यवश, स्वस्थ्य संबंधी परेशानी के कारण मै वहां नहीं आ सकूँगा। कृपया मेरी क्षमा याचना स्वीकार करें।

A FEW THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Don’t ignore the invitation
कुछ लोग ऐसा भी सोचते हैं कि पहले से मना करने कि क्या जरूरत है? इससे बेहतर है कि कुछ कहे बिना ही पार्टी में न जाया जाए। But that’s completely wrong and you should never ever think of doing that.

Don’t wait
आपको कोशिश करनी चाहिए कि invitation मिलते ही अपना जवाब host तक पहुंचा दें, चाहे जवाब ना ही क्यों न हो।

Be thankful
आपको invite करने के लिए हमेशा शुक्रिया अदा करें।

Ask for a different time
यदि आप उस समय busy हैं तो कोशिश करें कि मिलने के लिए किसी और वक़्त का plan बनाएं।

Don’t over-explain
यदि आप एक से ज़्यादा वजह बताएंगे तो सामने वाले को लग सकता है कि आप झूठ बोल रहे हैं या बहाना कर रहे हैं। Keep it simple and real.

Send something
अगर invitation किसी birthday party, wedding party या anniversary celebration का है तो कोशिश करें कि आपका तोहफा जल्द-से-जल्द मेज़बान तक पहुँच जाए।

No need to make awful excuses because it’s perfectly acceptable to decline an invitation!
As long as you do so gracefully and in amanner that does notoffend the host, you’ll definitely receive another invitation in the future. 👍
