What is the first thing that comes to your mind when I say the wordSEASON?

If you are a ten-year-old then you’ll probably say ‘SUMMER SEASON’, but if you are a cricket fan then your answer mightbe ‘IPL SEASON’.

What I’m trying to say is that when we say or hear a new word, it’scrucial to understand aparticular context in which the word is being used.

WHERE DID ‘SEASON’ CAME FROM?

This word has its roots in the latin word ‘satio’ meaning: the act of sowing seeds.

We can assume that this word is related to the time when people used to sow seeds.

• This year’s IPL season began with great fervour.
• इस साल के IPL season की शुरुआत काफी उत्साह के साथ हुई।

High profile social or fashion events:
• Her party is one of the most exciting events of the season.
• उसकी पार्टी season के सब से रोमांचक आयोजनों में से एक है।

5. One of the severalseries of television programmes with the same title and the same characters.

• Big Boss 10 season was hosted by Salman Khan.
• बिग बॉस 10 सीजन की मेजबानी सलमान खान ने की थी।

AS A VERB

1. To lend flavour to a dish (स्वादिष्ट बनाना)
When you add salt, pepper, or other herbs to a dish in order toenhance its taste, it means you have seasoned the dish.

• I seasoned this chicken with a lot of herbs and spices.
• मैंने इस चिकन को बहुत सारे herbs और स्वादिष्ट मसालों के साथ season किया है।

2. To accustom or harden (अभ्यस्त करना/ परिपक्व करना)
Here, it means that you have experienced something so often that now that thing seems normal and usual to you.

• Indian troops are seasoned by battle.
• भारतीय फ़ौज युद्ध से अभ्यस्त हैं।
