Many a time, when I open a dictionary or when I see new words cropping up every other day, I wonder, WHERE DOES THESE WORDS COME FROM?
यकीनन आपके मन में भी कभी ये सवाल आता होगा की phrases or words, difficult or interesting or new, जो भी हम सुनते हैं, पढ़ते हैं या आम बोल चाल में use करते हैं, ये आखिर आते कहाँ से हैं?

शायद इस बात का जवाब ढूंढना मुश्किल है पर फिर भी we have some explanation.
There are words that have been invented but a large part of any language’s vocabulary has evolved from other foreign languages.
कभी कभार pronunciationया dialect में अंतर होने के कारण एक ही शब्द के अलग अलग भाषाओं में अलग अलग प्रकार होते हैं, लेकिन उनके अर्थ almost एक जैसे ही होते हैं।
But then, there arecertain words and phrases that never loose their originality and people tend to use them as they are. Some foreign words and phrases are so common in everyday language that you hear or read them quite frequently.
क्योंकि ये कुछ शब्द और phrases विदेशी भाषाओं के होते हैं, इनका मतलब समझने में आपको problem हो सकती है।
आइये इस problem को दूर करते हैं और सीखते हैं ‘Foreign Words and Phrases Used in Everyday English’
PRO BONO (PUBLICO)
Origin: Latin
Translation: For the public good
Meaning: Pro bono is the short form of ‘Pro bono Publico’ जिसका अर्थ है कोई ऐसा काम जो की जनता के हित में या उनकी भलाई के लिए किया जाए, खासकर कोईlegal help जिसके बदले में कुछ कम फीस या पूरा ही खर्च ना लिया जाए।.
• The lawyer’s pro bonowork with the homelessis something that we all should praise andpromote.
DE FACTO
Origin: Latin
Translation: In fact
Meaning: एक सार्वजनिक हकीकत/वास्तविकता या फिर एक ऐसा तथ्य जो बेशक कानूनी ना हो मगर मान्य हो।
• John became the de facto man of the house when his father was killed in a car accident.
BONA FIDE
Origin: Latin
Translation: With good faith
Meaning: This simply means something that isgenuine, real or done with honesty. Bona fide का अर्थ ‘नेक-नियति’ व असल होता है।
• The jeweller statedthat the large diamond was bona fide andvaluable.
IPSO FACTO
Origin: Latin
Translation: Itself Fact
Meaning: Ipso facto का अर्थ है स्वतः सिद्ध।
• The enemy of one’s enemy may be ipso facto a friend.
MI CASA, SU CASA
Origin: Spanish
Translation: My house is your house
Meaning: Mi casa Su casa एक expression है जिसका प्रयोग घर में आए मेहमानों को comfortableकरने के लिए किया जाता है।
• Please don’t be soformal dear and just enjoy the party. Mi casa,Su casa!
A LA CARTE
Origin: French
Translation: According to the (menu) card
Meaning: इस phrase का use mostly किसी restaurant में ही किया जाता है।A restaurant generally have either a ‘buffet‘ which is a set and pre-decided meal or an ‘à la carte’ menu जिसके आइटम्स को आप अपनी मर्ज़ी सेseparately order कर सकते हैं।
• Minimum à la carteorder for delivery is two meals.
VIS-à-VIS
Origin: Old French
Translation: Face to face
Meaning: इसका वास्तविक अर्थ है आमने सामने। Vis-à-Vis का इस्तेमाल तुलनात्मक स्तिथि में भी किया जाता है जो की एक तरह से आमने सामने की situation को ही दर्शाता है।
• Sam is a little scaredabout the vis-à-vismeeting with his boss.
QUID PRO QUO
Origin: Latin
Translation: Something for something
Meaning: जब किसी काम के बदले में कोई advantage याfavour की मांग की जाए तो उसे quid pro quo यानी प्रतिदान कहते हैं।
• Our duty is to make our country a better place for all of us, without hidden agendasor quid pro quos.
ERGO
Origin: Latin
Translation: Therefore
Meaning: Ergo is just another word for ‘therefore’ and ‘so’ जिनका अर्थ है ‘इसलिए’।
• After all, we’re all human – ergo, we make mistakes.
HASTA LA VISTA
Origin: Spanish
Translation: See you later/until the (next) meeting
Meaning: यह एक famous Spanish expression that is used to say ‘goodbye’. Hasta la vista का प्रयोग तब किया जाता है जब आप किसी जगह, काम या इंसान से एक लंबे समय के लिए विदा लेते हैं।
• I’m going to Europe next week for my new job. Hasta la vista my love.
