I Don’t know about you, but my mind was blownwhen I realised for the first time that DISINTERESTED is not just another word that you can use in place of UNINTERESTED.

THEY ARE DIFFERENT!

So, strictly speaking, disinterested does not mean ‘not interested’ONLY.

People have become soused to the habit ofinterchanging the two words that many have given up the fight topreserve the distinction between them, but believe me, whetheryou care about it or not, the difference is there.

Let’s understand the differences between the two words and how to use them in different situations.

UNINTERESTED
Imagine yourself stuckin an awfullyboring situation and with every passing second, you fell deeperinto the lap of sleep.

You, my friend, are UNINTERESTED

To be uninterested = दिलचस्पी या रुचि ना होना।

• She talked to me in anuninterested voice.

• Up till the age of 13, she was completelyuninterested in boys.

DISINTERESTED
This word has two meanings in differentcontexts.
Let’s understand:

Disinterested = Not interested / not attentive
Having or feeling no interest in something

• The bowl is still full because Tommy isdisinterested in his new dog food.

• The teacher complained that Nancy always looksdisinterested in the class.

Disinterested = Impartial, unbiased
Disinterested can also be used for a person who is not influencedby considerations of personal advantage,

Now, That’s the catch here.

• Only the jury that contains disinterestedpeople, can give justified decisions.

• The head of the family has a duty to givedisinterested advice to all the members.

See, being disinterested doesn’t seem so bad now.

In a nutshell,
♦ An uninterested person is bored, unconcerned, orindifferent.
♦ A disinterested person is impartial, unbiased, or has no stake in the outcome.
