A PHRASE is a small group of words standing together as aconceptual unit.A group of words with special meaning is called a PHRASE.A phrase can be effectively used toemphasize a point.

The biggest difference between a nativeEnglish speaker and the one who is not a native speaker is that the former has a much better vocabulary and can express his thoughts clearly.

आपका अंग्रेजी भाषा का ज्ञान इस बात से आँका जा सकता है कि आप अपनी बात को कहने के लिए किस प्रकार के शब्दों का प्रयोग करते हैं।For example, अगर आपको कहीं बाहर जाना है तो आम इंग्लिश में आप कहेंगे:
→I am going out.

परंतु एक native English speaker इसी बात को कुछ इस अंदाज़ में कहेगा:
→I am heading out.
→I am going to take off.
→I’ll hit the road now.
इन सभी बातों का basic अर्थ बाहर जाना ही है मगर कहने का अंदाज़ अलग और निराला है।

यदि आपकी vocabularystrong है तो आपको कभी भी दूसरों के सामने अंग्रेजी में बात करने में संकोच महसूस नहीं होगा और साथ ही साथ आप बेहतर तरीके से अपनी बात और विचारों को express कर पाएंगे । एक अच्छी vocabulary होने का अर्थ सिर्फ शब्दों का ज्ञान नहीं होता है, it’s much more than that.

Although there are many ways to build a better vocab but the most effective one is to do it by learning phrases. Phrases या वाक्यांश ऐसे शब्दों का समूह है जो आपकी बात को एक बेहतर तरीके से express करने में मदद करते हैं ।
यूँ तो phrases के अलग अलग प्रकार होते हैं जैसे की:

Noun Phrase. ( संज्ञा वाक्यांश )Prepositional phrase. ( पूर्वसर्गीय वाक्यांश )Adjective Phrase. ( विशेषण वाक्यांश )Adverb Phrase. ( क्रिया विशेषण वाक्यांश )Verb Phrase. ( क्रिया वाक्यांश )Infinitive Phrase. ( साधारण वाक्यांश )

पर हम ज़्यादा technicality में ना जाकर कुछ ऐसे phrases के बारे में जानेंगे जिनका रोज़ाना की ज़िन्दगी में काफ़ी इस्तेमाल किया जाता है।

Now, let’s explore a new way to improve the quality of our “spoken-English” abilities. Today we’ll take a small step and discuss some phrases related to the word CALL.

Call back → to return a phone call ( वापिस फ़ोन करना )

→जब भी आपको समय मिले, मुझे वापिस कॉल करें ।Call off→ to cancel ( रद्द करना )

→कुछ कारणों की वजह से हमे इस परियोजना को रद्द करना पड़ा।Pay a call →To visit someone ( किसी से मिलने जाना )
→My grandparents pay us a call every two months.
→मेरे दादा दादी हमें हर दो महीने पर मिलने आते हैं।Call someone’s bluff → Exposesomeone’s deception( किसी के धोखे का पर्दाफाश करना )
→The atmosphere got a little tense after Sam called Amy’s bluff in front of everyone.
→माहौल थोड़ा तनावपूर्ण होगया जब Sam ने सबके सामने Amy का पर्दाफाश किया ।Wake-up call → Asign or warning that alerts you (एक संकेत या चेतावनी जो आपको सचेत कर दे )
→My father’s heart attack is a huge wake-up call for him about his unhealthy lifestyle.
→मेरे पिता को दिल का दौर पड़ना उनकी अस्वस्थ जीवन शैली की तरफ एक बड़ा चेतावनीपूर्ण संकेत है।Calling the shots→ to take all the decisions or to order ( सभी फैसले लेना या हुक्म चलाना )

→मेरे साथ बहस मत करो, यहाँ सभी निर्णय मै लेता हूँ।Call it a day → to complete a day’swork ( किसी एक दिन का काम खत्म करना )

→बॉस गुस्से में था क्योंकि टॉम ने दोपहर में ही काम ख़त्म कर लिया और अपने घर चला गया ।

Call it quits → to stop doing something or to resign fromsomething ( किसी काम को करना बंद कर देना या इस्तीफा देना )

→रिश्ता बद से बद्तर होता जा रहा था और हमने फैसला किया कि यही समय है इसे समाप्त करने का । Call down → toreprimand/scold aperson ( किसी को फटकार या डांट लगाना )

→मेरे नृत्य कोच एकperfectionist हैं और वह मुझे मेरी हर छोटी गलती पर डांटते हैं।Call on → ask or demand somebody to do something ( किसी को कुछ करने के लिए अनुरोध या मांग करना )
